Chapter 29

Montana
Moss Mansion

The Moss Mansion Historic House Museum is located in Billings, Montana on 914 Division St. It is a turn of the century, red-stoned mansion built by P.B. Moss, who moved to Billings from Paris, Missouri. It was inhabited solely by Mr. and Mrs. Moss, their six children, and 3 servants until 1984. The house was built for a cost of $105,000, when most homes averaged about $3000. Visitors can still see the original furniture, draperies, carpets and fixtures during a one-hour guided tour.  Click below for more information on the mansion.

South Dakota
Mount Rushmore - Cullen Style

Mount Rushmore

South Dakota's Black Hills provide the backdrop for Mount Rushmore, the world's greatest mountain carving. These 60-foot high faces, 500 feet up, look out over a setting of pine, spruce, birch, and aspen in the clear western air.  Sculptor Gutzon Borglum began drilling into the 5,725-foot mountain in 1927. Creation of the Shrine of Democracy took 14 years and cost a mere $1 million, though it's now deemed priceless.  Click below for more information.

Black Hills Cave

The caves of the Black Hills of South Dakota offer some of the largest concentrations of passageways and are among the world’s oldest caves. All of the caves in the Black Hills are limestone caves and offer a variety of rare formations from dogtooth spar crystals to stalactites and frostwork. Wind Cave National Park and Jewel Cave National Monument, plus four private caves and caverns, offer fun, educational underground adventures.  For more information, click the link below.
